THE LEGACY

AWARD

The Legacy Award celebrates a comedic stalwart, a comedian whose body of work, career achievements, and enduring presence have defined South African comedy.

This award honours those whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the industry, shaping the comedy landscape for audiences and peers alike.

ENTRY CRITERIA:

This is not about a single performance, viral moment, or recent success, it’s about a career of creativity, excellence, and cultural significance. The Legacy Award recognises comedians whose work has stood the test of time and continues to inspire the comedy community.

Qualifying Conditions:

  • Nomination-Based: This award cannot be entered by the nominee themselves. Only members of the South African comedy industry, i.e. registered comedians, may submit nominations.
  • Nominees must have a long-standing career in comedy with a proven track record of impactful and influential work.
  • Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
    • Landmark performances, shows, or specials that have defined their career.

What the Judges Are Looking For:

  • A comedian whose career has had a lasting and transformative impact on South African comedy.

What Nominators Need to Submit:

  • A nomination letter (max 500 words) detailing the nominee’s career, key milestones, and impact on the comedy industry.
  • Consent from the nominee is required. The person submitting the nomination must ensure the comedian agrees to be nominated.
  • One submission per comedian is sufficient. The nominee may assist in drafting the nomination, but only a single entry, submitted by one industry member, is needed.
