BREAKTHROUGH ACT OF THE YEAR
AWARD
For the best breakthrough comedian. The nominees will be shortlisted by the comedy industry, then this category goes out for public voting.
ENTRY CRITERIA:
Are you a professional breakthrough act that’s putting your all into comedy? You’re energised, you’re supported and you know you’ve broken through! You have a dedicated fan-base, regular requests for appearances on radio, stage, television and corporate events, and possibly your own regular show. Then this category is for you.
Qualifying Conditions:
- This category is for stand-up comedians with a maximum of 7 years professional experience.
- You’ll need to have performed 80% of your comedy work within South Africa over the last year.
- You’re definitely not a newcomer, but you’re not quite an established act just yet. The awards are run on honesty, we trust you to only enter categories that you actually qualify for.
What to submit:
- A headshot and bio.
- There might be some comedians who don’t know you, so please also submit a link to you performing stand-up to an audience, as an example of your work. Maximum two-minutes long, filmed recently. If it’s longer than two minutes, the industry will only watch the first two minutes when voting.
What the industry’s looking for when judging:
- As with all the categories, we have comedians voting for comedians.
- When it comes time to vote, you can only vote once per category.
- We trust that you’ll vote for the breakthrough act that most deserves the recognition.
