AWARD

This award honours a comedian who has become a true pillar of the comedy industry, someone whose influence extends far beyond their own performances.

It recognises the individuals who invest in the growth and sustainability of South African comedy, whether by mentoring emerging talent, opening doors, providing guidance, or contributing pro bono work that strengthens the community. 

ENTRY CRITERIA:

This award is not about fame or personal accolades; it’s about impact, generosity, and leadership. It celebrates those who quietly, consistently, and selflessly lift others while shaping the future of the industry, ensuring that comedy continues to thrive for generations to come.

Qualifying Conditions: 

  • Open to comedians and comedy professionals who are actively contributing to the comedy industry.
  • Nominees must demonstrate a clear and sustained contribution to supporting other comedians or the comedy ecosystem.
  • Contributions can include, but are not limited to: mentoring, coaching, opening doors for emerging talent, facilitating opportunities, producing or supporting shows for new talent, or providing pro bono work that strengthens the industry.
  • The work should have tangible impact, either on individual careers or on the comedy community as a whole.

What the industry’s looking for when judging:   

  • A comedian whose actions have significantly benefited the industry, beyond personal gain.
  • Leadership and mentorship that nurtures emerging talent and inspires peers.
  • A track record of generosity, commitment, and influence in shaping the comedy landscape.
  • Work that has enhanced the reputation, growth, or sustainability of South African comedy locally or internationally.

What to Submit: 

  • A written summary (maximum 650 words) detailing your contribution to the comedy industry.
  • Specific examples of mentorship, initiatives, or pro bono work.

Key Notes: 

  • This award is about impact and legacy, not performances or commercial success.
  • Nominations should highlight specific examples of outstanding contributions and their outcomes.
